Yard Waste Program
In this tough economic time we ask you to do your part in helping reduce the cost of rubbish disposal. With our new rubbish program we are asking you to please participate in our new yard waste program.
With spring yard clean up under way, please remember that all organic waste including, leaves, grass, hedge clipping and garden plants must be placed in paper yard waste bags (available at most retail outlets) or in designated yard waste cans. "Yard Waste Only" stickers are available for pickup at the Service Department during regular business hours: Mon-Fri 7:00am - 3:30pm. Just place these stickers on your old garbage cans so we can easily identify your yard waste only cans. Place all yard waste bags and cans at least 3 feet from rubbish and recycling carts on your treelawn. Please remember these yard waste cans and bags are for yard waste only - yard waste in plastic bags will not be accepted. Lyndhurst residents place approximately 1,000 tons of yard waste at the curb each year. In the past, this yard waste was taken to the sanitary landfill in Wayne County and buried at a cost of $37 per ton. With your participation, all organic yard waste will be recycled into compost and other soil amendments, which in turn will save tens of thousands of tax dollars and reduce the amount of material buried in the landfill.
Large branches over 4 feet long up to a maximum of 6 inches in diameter should be stacked neatly at least 3 feet from carts for chipping. Smaller branches less than 4 feet in length need to be bundled and put at least 3 feet from carts on your treelawn.
Weekend Rubbish
The weekend rubbish program resumed at the service garage on April 3, the hours of operation are 11:30am to 3:30pm both Saturday and Sunday. This program will also accept household hazardous waste. This service in only available to Lyndhurst residents, so please bring an ID for proof of residency.
