About:

Are you one of the many residents who loves our city and has always wanted the opportunity to be more involved in what is happening, meet other neighbors and help make Lyndhurst the best city it can be? Well now is your opportunity! The Lyndhurst Neighborhood Watch group is forming and needs your assistance!

Neighborhood Watch is one of the oldest crime prevention concepts in the county. It was started in 1972 to assist citizens and law enforcement. In the aftermath of 9/11, Neighborhood Watch programs expanded beyond their traditional crime prevention role to help neighborhoods focus on disaster preparedness, emergency response and terrorism awareness. A Neighborhood Watch program is a group of people living in the same area who want to make their neighborhood safer by working together with law enforcement to reduce crime and improve their quality of life.

The mission statement of the Lyndhurst Neighborhood Watch is as follows:

We are committed to bringing our community of neighbors together to help raise a greater sense of security, responsibility, and personal control. We will foster a climate of diversity to ensure Lyndhurst continues to be a desirable community that attracts people of all ages and walks of life.

There are two primary goals of our Neighborhood Watch Organization. The first is to create a stronger community. We will create opportunities for us to get to know our neighbors. We spend so much of our time connected to our devices, we rarely branch out of our inner circle. This watch group will give our neighbors a reason to get together, build relationships with each other and discuss how to make Lyndhurst a better place. Neighborhood Watch activities will be a fun way for community members to get to know each other while making a difference.

The second is to focus on basic crime prevention. We want to teach all to practice crime safety measures that eliminate opportunities for criminals and encourage others to join in crime prevention efforts as well as to aid others should they become victims of crime. We will work for a better and safer neighborhood through protecting and honoring the rights of others.

The first public meeting of the Lyndhurst Neighborhood Watch will take place Wednesday, May 2nd, at 7:00 p.m. in the Lyndhurst Community Center. We hope you will join us to find out more about what we are doing and find out what you can do to help!
