The police departments of Mayfield Village, Lyndhurst, Gates Mills, Highland Heights, Mayfield Heights, and Richmond Heights, as well as the Cleveland Heights police academy cadets - are partnering with the United Service Organization of Northern Ohio (USO), the nation's leading organization to provide support to servicemen and women overseas, for a care package donation drive.
Join forces with local police and help bring a little bit of home to our soldiers by donating toiletries, snacks and more this Veteran's Day, Saturday, Nov. 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Mayfield Heights Walmart (6594 Mayfield Road, Mayfield Heights, Ohio).
Meet your local law enforcement officers and get hands on with police cruisers, motorcycles, Bomb Squad and SWAT trucks, and Mayfield Village's K-9, Leo. The collection will kick off at 11 a.m. with the National Anthem, sung by members of the Mayfield High School choir and a speech by a local veteran who served overseas. A special demonstration by K-9 Leo will be presented at 1:30 p.m. Meet your friendly neighborhood K-9 and handler throughout the day.
Care package distribution request forms will be available on-site, courtesy of USO. Participants can sign up to add a family member or friend stationed overseas to the mailing list. Individuals will receive "care packages" of snacks and toiletries, letters and other donations from citizens grateful for their service to our country.
