PROGRAM: Vegatable Gardening. All You Need to Know.

WHEN: Thursday, March 3rd 2016

WHERE: Lyndhurst Community Center, 1341 Parkview Drive, Lyndhurst, Ohio 44124.

DESCRIPTION: Learn how you can create your own vegetable garden from scratch. Topics will include site selection, the timing and planting of popular vegetables and cultivation and fertilization techniques. We will also learn about troubleshooting for insects and disease, harvesting, and preparation of the garden for winter.

SPEAKER: Christine Harris. Christine is a retired educator who lives on over an acre of land filled with flowers, fruit trees, and vegetable gardens.

Christine became a Master Gardener for Cuyahoga County in 2004. Within the organization she is a member of the Community Gardening Committee, serving as a mentor for new urban gardeners. She lectures extensively throughout the county and beyond, for the Tri-C Encore Program - both east and west, and at libraries and gardening clubs. She has appeared on Public Radio's "Ideastream" and has contributed to the Cleveland Plain Dealer's "Inside Outside" page. She was named Ohio Master Gardener Volunteer of the Year for 2011.

Vegetable gardening, particularly with winter vegetables, is her specialty. She created a series of useful cards for the Master Gardeners of Cuyahoga County with tips on dealing with deer, vegetable gardening and on waking the garden in spring - a helpful "to do" list.
