Community Center Update August 2015 - City of Lyndhurst, Ohio

Melissa Weldon, Coordinator, (440) 449-5011

Concerts in the Park:

Please join us on Wednesday, August 19th 2015 from 7:00 PM -9:00 PM, for the last of our Concerts in the Park, featuring the Mike Wojtila Band. In the event of rain, the Concert will be held inside the Community Center.

American Red Cross Blood Drive:

In NE Ohio alone, the daily goal for blood drives is to collect 900 units (pints) of blood, a DAY. The blood is then distributed between 57 hospitals in 19 counties to meet the needs of their patients. The demand for blood and blood products is HUGE... but of the 37% of the population that is actually eligible to donate only 4% of them do. I hope you will consider becoming a donor at our next Red Cross Blood drive, Thursday Aug. 6, from 1p to 6p, here in the Community Center. Donors need to be 17 yrs. old, (16 with a signed parental consent), weigh at least 110 lbs. and be in general good health. Donors should also bring their Red Cross donor card or other form of positive ID. Consider being a hero. It costs nothing to give but if you or a loved one needs blood...it is PRICELESS!

Electronics Recycling:

The Community Center continues to collect your old cell phones, I-Pods, digital cameras, and & MP3 players, to benefit the American Cancer Society. The items are then forwarded to a recycler, who sends us a donation for the ACS for every item we send them. Your items DO NOT have to work, but it is requested that the batteries remain in the phones. Chargers and accessories are accepted, for recycling purposes, but are NOT required. You can drop your items at the Community Center anytime during business hours. This is an on-going program.

Bike Helmet Program:

As you start thinking about back to school, look at your child's bike helmet. Does their head sit high on their head, (show too much forehead)? Does the helmet move TOO easily or does it move more than 1"in any direction? If you answering yes, then the helmet is in either serious need of resizing or your child has outgrown the helmet. We can help with both. We have a good supply of BELL helmets in a variety of sizes, although we are unable to fit children under the age of two. Because of our affiliation with the Injury Prevention Center at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, we are able to offer these helmets to you at our cost of $10.00. Helmets fittings are done by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
