Released: 7/7/2014

The Hillcrest Women's Club is a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs founded in 1890. It is the oldest organization of volunteer women in the world. The Club actively participates in civic and welfare projects to promote interest along civic and cultural lines. This year the Hillcrest Women's Club will be celebrating its 60th anniversary.

Examples of some projects members have worked on this past year:

  • Tote bags were sewed for Operation Smile (an international organization that provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and facial deformities in children).
  •
  • Comfort pillow were made for post-surgery patients at local hospitals.
  •
  • Local fire departments received stuffed bears to be given to children receiving their services.
  •
  • Members were responsible for a Meals on Wheels route in the area.
  •
  • Supplies were collected for local elementary schools and food pantries.
  •
  • Scarves, hats, mittens and gloves were knitted/crocheted for domestic violence shelters and hats made for preemies.
  •
  • Meals were served at Ronald McDonald House.
  •
  • A college scholarship was awarded to a qualified Brush High School senior.
Hillcrest Women's Club has two fund raising projects each year. In the fall there is a Holiday Gift/Craft Auction at which home-made cookies are also available for purchase. In May a plant sale is held. Profits from these activities support the work of the club.

The club encourages friendships among women by providing an opportunity to socialize prior to each business meeting. Social events are also planned during the year (lunches, annual holiday party, etc.). In addition the Booklover's Club meets on a monthly basis as part of an educational and self-improvement program.

The Hillcrest Women's Club holds general meetings at the Lyndhurst Community Center on the last Monday of the month from September to May. The program portion of each meeting may be an educational opportunity or a presentation from a non-profit organization. Interested prospective members are invited to attend.
