DEPARTMENTS / FIRE DEPARTMENT / FIRE SAFETY & PREVENTION / OPEN BURNING & RECREATIONAL FIRES: Print Close
The Lyndhurst Fire Department receives many calls during the summer and fall months asking questions about open burning.Section 307 of the Ohio Fire Code, Open Burning and Recreational Fires, addresses this question. To summarize this section, open burning is prohibited without a permit obtained from the fire official. An exception is made for recreational fires. Recreational fires are permitted as long as they are at least 25 feet away from combustible material. An approved fire extinguishing agent should be immediately available. The fire department official may order the extinguishment of any open burning which creates or adds to a hazardous condition or objectionable situation. |
