Back to School

Now that school is in session, motorists are reminded to heed school zone speed limits and use caution in any area where students are present.

Snow Plowing

As we approach the snow season, many residents will be establishing agreements with private snow plow companies. Companies providing this service in Lyndhurst are required to have a permit issued by the City and to comply with applicable regulations which they receive a copy of with their permit. It has been our experience, based on complaints, that the least expensive companies do not always provide the best service, often because they take on too many customers. Please use reputable contractors who have good references that you have personally checked. Your own neighbors may be a good source. You can call the Lyndhurst Police Department at 440-473-5116 to confirm that your contractor has a city-issued permit. Because your agreement is a civil matter, the police department is limited in how it can address problems that may arise.

When using a private snow plow contractor, your responsibilities include making sure that the plower does not cause safety issues for motorists, pedestrians and especially children by blocking sidewalks, piling snow higher than three feet or closer than ten feet to the curb, pushing snow onto your neighbor's property or into the street.

Eyes and Ears

Remember that residents and community members are the eyes and ears of the police department. If you see something suspicious, don't hesitate to call us. 440-442-1234.

Thank you and be safe,
Chief Rick Porrello
