Hillcrest Kiwanis

Our members volunteer for 2 hours at the Cleveland Foodbank Collinwood site on the 4th Monday evening every month to help the needy in the Cleveland area. Kiwanians meet at Maher Funeral Home, 4274 Mayfield Road, South Euclid at 5:45 PM. Please contact Dan Corrigan, (216) 691-1405, for details.

Hillcrest Women’s Club/GFWC

On Monday, February 25, 7:30 PM we will mark Black History Month with Sandra Vodanoff’s discussion of Cleveland’s African-American history as revealed by Lakeview Cemetery. Famous African Americans such as Garrett A. Morgan, inventor of the three-color traffic light and the gas mask, and Carl B. Stokes, the first African American mayor of a major city, are buried in the cemetery. The meeting will be held at the Lyndhurst Community Center.

Special Needs Advocacy and Parent Support

S.N.A.P.S. is a South Euclid-Lyndhurst parent-based group that supports people with special needs, from infants to adults, and educates their parents and family members. We offer parents an opportunity to meet to help improve their son’s or daughter’s social, emotional and academic achievement. Family members share ideas and experiences through our speakers’ series and meetings on the second Friday of every month, 9:30 AM-11:30 AM at the Lyndhurst Community Center. In April (date to be announced), Barb Rutt from the Ohio Coalition for the Education for Children with Disabilities will present a clinic on how to write an efficient IEP. Bring your child’s IEP with you; Barb can answer any questions you have. For more information, visit our Web site: www.selsnaps.info.

Lyndhurst Dads’ Club

During February and March, we will register participants in all age groups for what should be a fantastic 2008 season. For registration dates and times, go to our Web site. Anyone interested in participating this year should sign up as soon as possible to avoid the last-minute rush. We are considering expanding our programs this year to include sponsorship of a limited number of teams, at certain age levels, in fall ball leagues. And for the first time, we have partnered with the Cleveland Indians for a Day at the Park on May 4th at discounted rates for club members, participants and their friends. Tickets are limited. Details will be available at registration.

Again this year, we are looking for umpires (must be at least 14 years old) for our Mighty Mite and Pixie leagues. We also need volunteer concession workers for our tournament in June and at Family Fun Night, June 11th. We also need volunteer booth workers for Lyndhurst Home Days in September.

To learn more about our club, its programs, team sponsorships or how you could become active, visit our Web site, www.lyndhurstdadsclub.org, or contact President Dale Conkling, (440) 442-2514.

Lyndhurst Women’s Civic Club

Our club’s sole purpose is civic betterment, and we are interested in many community services. In the past, we have filled food baskets for those in need and donated to the Tri-City Consortium on Aging and to the Lyndhurst Commission on Aging. Women of all ages are welcome to join. We meet the second Thursday of every month (except June-August) at 1:00 PM and have excellent programs. At our February 14th meeting, the Senior Players will perform short skits. For information, contact Colette O’Brien, (440) 442-5411.
