Don't underestimate the power and importance of community service hours. Many colleges require them for initial applications and or consideration into special programs. They can also be used for your resume when applying for a job. How do you earn service hours? Get involved in N2N — people in your own backyard need help. Join our Fall Leaf Raking Activity, Spring Clean Up, and Food Drives. Work as many hours as you would like (minimum 5 hours), so give us a call. We can sign up individuals or entire groups or clubs. (440) 442-5777 EXT 300. At least two Food Drives are held yearly to help folks in our community. N2N had the privilege to deliver food to our local schools; from there it was distributed to families in need. Helping one another within our own community is very gratifying. Knowing that you can depend on local help makes it easier for all. Times can be tough, especially when you have children. Many residents came to the call donating so many great food items, snacks, cleaning products and more. The "Welcome to Lyndhurst" Committee of the N2N Program was created to offer new residents a warm welcome to our city. In the past we invited new residents to a welcome reception, but felt we were not reaching enough people. So, over the past several months we have turned our attention to creating a "Welcome to Lyndhurst" new resident booklet. The booklet has a great deal of information for new residents. It has gone to the printer with the blessing of Mayor Cicero and Lyndhurst City Council. The booklet is such a valuable resource that initially ALL residents will get a copy. Then it will be distributed to new residents. Our next step is to gather names of residents who would like to be a "neighbor representative" for your street and welcome new residents personally. If you would be willing to help out for your street or part of your street give the neighbor phone number a call and leave a message at (440) 442-5777 EXT 300. The "Welcome to Lyndhurst" Committee is open to any residents who would like to spread the good neighbor message of Lyndhurst to our newest residents. We will meet in October to discuss specific welcoming ideas to put into action. If you are not a person who likes to attend meetings and would just like to communicate your ideas just give us a call. We know many of you are already doing the work of a good neighbor, for this we thank you. We look forward to seeing or hearing from you.
We are a group of dedicated residents who are promoting and increasing environmental awareness in the community of Lyndhurst. Our committee name is Project SKYE: Spreading Knowledge: Your Environment. Our group's first success was to spearhead an organic lawn care pilot program at the Lyndhurst Roland Park in 2006 and 2007. The area looks great, and is safe for kids and pets. Our next goal is to have ALL of Lyndhurst parks, ball fields and playgrounds chemical free! There are lots of good reasons to begin caring for your lawn without the use of chemicals. Chemicals potentially pose a threat to you and your family and pets, to our water supply and the environment. Here are a few tips to get you started, but be sure to contact us for more detailed information!
A few extra minutes of your time before garbage collection can increase your recycled goods and decrease trash tonnage sent to landfills.
