CERT: Change Announced in the Executive Director Position

At the training session held on Saturday January 21st it was announced that Keith Packard was stepping down as Executive Director of the Lyndhurst CERT. Lavalle Dorsey has been gracious enough to accept the title of Interim Director. Other changes will be discussed at the next executive board meeting scheduled for March 10th. Those interested in taking a more active role in CERT administration should plan to attend this meeting.

CERT: New Executive Director Speaks at Winter Training Session

Lavalle Dorsey was introduced and addressed the attendees of the CERT Winter training session. Lavalle spoke about county and federal initiatives aimed at the promotion of better communication and coordination between CERT units and first responders. CERT: Winter Training Session Well Attended

This year's Winter Training Session at the Lyndhurst Community Center was very well attended. One topic of discussion was winter fire preparedness. A review of fire and smoke detector types took place. Additional discussion focused on carbon monoxide and flammable gas detectors, and their proper location within the home. CERT: Increase Your CERT Related Skills Online

All CERT members are encouraged to increase their disaster preparedness skills. FEMA's website has numerous links to educational opportunities, many of which can be completed online through independent study. Coures IS-100, 200 and 700 offered by the Emergency Management Institute are highly recommended.
